Walla Walla county - incorporated in 1854 - iis located on the south central border of Washington, across the Columbia River from Oregon.
With fertile lands thanks to the close proximity to the river, Walla Walla is primarily known for it's rich wine country and sweet Walla Walla onions. The collection has limited artists highlighted, as a different collection for "The Walla Walla Project" features research done by WSFC director Jens Lund, and holds the bulk of the folklife and folk art of the area. His research resulted in a paper titled "Narrative Report on Italian-Americans in the Walla Walla Valley" - which can be viewed at the Library of Congress.
