San Juan county - incorporated in 1873 - is located in the northern Puget Sound of Washington.
Consisting of a cluster of 20 islands, the county currently relies on tourism - previously the islands were occupied solely by the indigenous Lummi, Saanish, Samish, and Songhee people who lived off the land and Salish Sea.
