1996-1997 Course Catalog

Two courses were offered in the academic year 1996-1997 that dove into the complexities of the U.S. election system. These courses were "Anatomy of An Election" taught by York Wong and Leo Daugherty, and "Hype and Hucksters: Media Campaigns as Popular Culture" taught by Virginia Hill. These are featured on pages 68 and 80 of the digital copy of this course catalog.

November 2, 2000 The Cooper Point Journal

A full spread of election content was published in the November 2, 2000 issue of the CPJ, inlcuding an article called "A Word About the Initiatives." Elections aren't only about the presidential candidates, and this article helped students stay informed about what might be on their ballot.

September 8, 2004 The Cooper Point Journal

Are you familiar with the concept of Instant Runoff Voting? The article "Instant Runoff Voting" from the CPJ addresses  the advocacy for the implementation of a ranking system in voting, in support of other activists. This article can be found on page 2 of The Cooper Point Journal.

Student Work: Election 2008 Research

With social media on the rise in the 2000s, this student focused their final research project on the effect of the new media technology on the campaigning and election process.

October 19, 2012 Election Issue of The Cooper Point Journal

The October 19, 2012 issue of the CPJ is focused primarily on the election, including student interviews on why voting is important, themed comics, and pages of submitted Greener opinions.

July 27, 2017 Maxine Mimms, Betsy Diffendal, and LLyn De Danaan Oral History Interview

In this oral hisotry interview of three significant women in Evergreen's history, Maxine Mimms comments on the 2016 election. On page 39 she gives valuable insight into experiences that the black female community reference when considering presidential candidates. 

August 29, 2017 Dan Leahy Oral History Interview

Dan Leahy was a faculty member of Evergreen from 1985 to 2009, during which he helped found and directed the Labor Education and Research Center and taught numerous courses on the subjects of political economy and social movements. In his oral history interview, done in 2017, he speaks about his experience creating a new political party. This segment starts on page 13 of this trasncript of the interview.
