Mary Nelson has been working with the Third World community and the administration to plan a program on the Tacoma campus for the Third World community
on April 27. The program is designed to improve relations among Third World
students, staff and facuLty. The program will involve a discussion of issue s
relating to the quality of life for Third World people at Evergreen (curricula,
retention and recruitment, affirmative action, cultural literacy, etc.) and
will end with suggestions for an action plan.
This memo is to let you know that the adm'inistration encourages and supports
this kind of activity. This is in keeping with the spirit and intent of our
affirmative action efforts. I encourage other groups who are interested in
a similar activity to consider planning and organizing events which are beneficial to staff and faculty (and students).
