Colorado--have been selected by the Smithsonian Institution to serve as core staff
for a Washington, D.C. project sponsored jointly by the Institution and the YMCA.
The students already have begun their internships and will remain with the project
through' June 15.

The interns are working with groups of tenth grade students from

Washington's inner city and are receiving $lOO-per-month ?tipends.
And, students Drew Carey of Kirkland and Jay Callen of Ferndale have been chosen
for six-month. internships at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.
will work in geology and Callen in anthropology.

The internships, which began this

Heidi Krogstad, a Seattle junior at The Evergreen State College has been
selected for a Northwest College and University Associ tion for Science (NORCUS)
summer internship at Battelle ,Northwest Laboratories in Richland.
The 1971 graduate of Evergreen High School is among 30 students selected nationally
for the program,

The ten-week internship, enabling Ms. Korgstad to work with pro-

fessionals in scientific research projects, will begin June 15 and will include a
$lOO-per-month stipend.
Ms. Krogstad is the daughter of Dr. Reuben S. Krogstad, 2632 SW l20th in Seattle.

Drew Carey, a Newport High School graduate, now attending The Eyergreen

State College, has been selected for a six~month internship at the Fie1dMuseum

Natural History in Chicago.
Carey, one of two Evergreen students chosen for the unique educattonal
opportunity, began his internship in Chicago earlter this month worktng in the field
of geology,

He will work through September earning a $250-per~month stipend and

full academic credit.
The Evergreen sophomore is the son of Glen Carey of 9006 NE 116 Place, Kirkland.
