GRANTWRITING:

DO YOU KNOWHOW?

Our second workshop will be an overview of
what grantwriting entails, from corporate
to federal sources for non-profit organi zations to graduate school financing.
This is designed to be an introduction
for people serious about pursuing grantwriting skills . If you are at all interested, please attend - April 17th at
noon, Library 3205. Julius Curry, with
the Tacoma Housing Authority, will be the

GRAN BALLET FOLKLORICO
One of Mexico 1 S finest dance companies will
be in Olymp i a , April 8th, at 8:00p.m. at
St. Martin 1 S Pavilion. Tickets are $6 $7

SAMOAN FLAG DAY
April 17th marks the day the US raised their
flag on what is now called American Samoa.
This is the day the treaty was signed ceding
E~stern Samoa to the US as a trust territory.
S1nce then, American Samoa has cel ebrated
~pril l7th.a nd is one of the most popular
1sl~nd hol1days.
USO (United Samoan Organizatlon) and the Equal Opportunity office at
Ft. Lewis have planned festivities for April
21st, in commemoration of Flag day. Jack
Thompson, wsu~s renowned football- player
will be one of the guest speakers, among'
other A~ia n American and Samoan spokespeople.
There w1l l be cultural events including
sever~l Fir ~-knife dancers followed by
feast1ng. lhe event i s scheduled to happen
between 11:00 a.m . and 5:00p.m. at the
Nelson Recreation Center, main post, Ft. Lewis.

THIRD WORLD LIBRARY
We are expanding our services to include a
buildin g of a library addressing Third
World i ssues and concern s. All books and
periodic als are available to check out or
read in the lounge, Library 3236. The
lounge will be open every afternoon from
1:00 to 5:00 p.m. We have also included
.iterature for Third World children. Come
and check it out. If there is something
you want ordered, we are open for suggestions. The periodicals we are receiving:
Nort hwest Indian News , The Guardian,
The Militant, The Black Panther,
Revolutionary Worker , The Korean Times,
India Abroad, Bilian News, Ang Ka tipunan,
an d Akwesasne Notes .
We have more editions of other periodicals
and magazines which are also available .

several internship possibilities for th e
su mmer of 19 79. The focus will be mi grant
educat ion and the persons needed sh ou ld be
colle ge seniors or graduates and bilingual
Spanish . Most projects will beg in June lst
and last 12 weeks with a sti pe nd of $125 . 00

The Olympic National Forest has three job
openings, beginning in April and ending in
Decembe r: warehouse person, maintenance
person and motor vehicle operator . All pay
close to $7.00 per hour. For further
details, the announcements are posted outside my office - Library 3233.
Planning position is being firmed up for
the Third World Coalition July - August,
full time, to assist in planning for
academic year 1979-80 and to plan and implement FALL ORIENTATION for Third World
students, as well as update the survival
manual. For more information, call April at

A trial assistant is being sought for an
attorney in the ~ublic Defender's office in
Portland . $700 . 00 per month, call Gail

WHO'S GOT THE BUCKS ?
Another reminder - Julius Curry of the
Tacoma Hous i ng Authority will present an
overview workshop of Grant Writing on
1\pr il 17th, noon- 1: 30 p.m., Library 3205 .
This workshop will inc l ude information you
will find not only helpful, but virtually
necessary if you intend to tack 1e the
diff i cu l ties involved in acquiring grant
funds for Third World agency work, institutional funds for special studies (i .e.
graduate school research), or corporate
s upport funds designated for Third World
people . ~1r . Curry will include in h·is
discussion methods appropriate to locating
funding sources, how to approach those
sources, and the politics involved behind
grant applications.
Your participation in this overview workshop
will serve as a "barometer" from which we may
determine how to structure t~e on - going
grant writing workshops. We welcome your
participation and insights into this process.
