Evergreen is located in a 1,000-acre forest on
the southern shore of Puget Sound between
the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Coast.
Olympia, a seaport community of 30,000, with
a small but expanding population of diverse
ethnic groups, is only five miles away. As the
state capital, Olympia offers many opportunities for governmental internships. Seattle,
Thcoma and Portland are nearby, providing a
variety of weekend activities as well as
cultural ties to ethnic communities.

Program
Evergreen maintains a 20-to-1 student-tofaculty ratio and emphasizes learning in small
groups rather than large lecture& Students
develop close working relationships with faculty members, and receive credit from them by
personally-written evaluations rather than letter grades_ Evergreen's versatile curriculum is
devoted to intercultural value& It enables you
to study with an emphasis in most fields such
as business, education, pre-law and pre-med,
computer science and ethnic studies_
Evergreen's modes of study include full-time
programs; part-time courses; individual learning contracts, where a student studies with
one faculty member; and internships, where
one can apply what one has learned in real
world job setting& Full-time programs replace
separate unrelated courses by combining a
number of subjects in the study of a central
issue or problem. Program activities may
include:
• Lectures presented by faculty teams or
guest speakers
• Seminars or group discussions among 15-20
students and one faculty member
• Laboratories
• Workshops
• Individual conferences with faculty
members
• Field trips

For example, "Political Economy and Social
Change" is a full-time interdisciplinary program that shows the relationships between
history, economics, sociology, political science
and law. Other typical interdisciplinary programs include "Society and the Computer:'
"Great BookS:' "Native American StudieS:'
and "Counseling the Culturally Different."

Admissions

Freshman
Normally, any graduate in the upper half of
the graduating class of an accredited high
school will be considered for admission. If
their rank is not available, applicants will be
considered individually.
If you are not in the upper half of your
class, you will need to show evidence of your
ability to succeed at Evergreen by submitting
test scores, letters of recommendation and
other data as requested by the Admissions Office. Commonly submitted test scores include
the Washington Pre-College Test, Scholastic
Aptitude Test or American College Test. At
this time, no minimum score is required.
Transfer Students
If you are a transfer student, you will be considered for admission if you made satisfactory
progress at your previous college and left in
good academic standing. Applicants from other
institutions who have completed 45 or more
quarter hours of college-level credit (or the
equivalent), need not submit high school
transcripts or test scores. Those who have
completed less than 45 quarter hours must
submit high school transcripts as well as college transcripts.
General Educational Development 'Thsts
Applications will be considered from persons
18 or older who have not graduated from an
accredited high school, but have completed the
General Educational Development (GED) tests.
Normally, GED test scores should be at the
60th p_ercentile or above in all categories.
Application Deadlines
Evergreen has a "rolling admissions" process.
This means that the college reviews applications as they are completed (when official
transcripts are received for evaluation) and
returns decisions within a few weeks. The
college may stop accepting applications if
enrollment limits are reached. It is to your
advantage to consider the following guidelines
when applying:

Freshmen
Nonnalmente, todos los canclidatos que tienen

Educational Support
Services

Evergreen provides services to students in
support of both their educational and personal
needs.
The First Peoples Advising Services works
with all minority students, faculty and staff on
campus. Their goal is to aid students in their
successful completion of a college degree.
Services include a monthly newsletter about
campus activities and community services; a
study/typing room and a library lounge area;
fall orientation activities for new First People
students; peer advising, information, referral
and limited counseling on a walk-in basis; and
sponsorship of films, dances, workshops and
events in cooperation with First Peoples student organizations, which are listed on page 18.
Academic Advising provides students with
current information about academic programs.
KEY-Keep Enhancing Yourself is a pro·
gram designed to enhance the retention,
academic success and graduation rate of
eligible students. KEY works closely with
Financial Aid, Career Development and other
campus offices, in addition to conducting
workshops, individual and group counseling
sessions.
The Writing Center offers individual help to
improve reading, writing and study skills.

On-campus housing includes 19 duplexes and
12 residence halls which contain one- to fiveperson apartments. Students have full kitchen
facilities in all but the smallest apartments, or
they may buy meals at the cafeteria or the
Campus Deli. One of the halls has an international floor where students join in a
multicultural living experience.
Although it isn't owned by the college or in
any way a part of the housing system, ASH
(or Adult Student Housing) is the off-campus
housing closest to Evergreen. Th contact the
170-unit ASH complex, call (206) 866-8181.
Other rentals are available throughout the
Olympia area.
Evergreen tiene 19 apartamientos y 12
