RE:

Indian Education Program

I have called a meeting for January 7 from 12 to 1 in Library 2208
(Deans• area). The purp()se of this meeting is to discuss the
following agenda and the attached documents• As many of you already
know the program within the Department .of Education which funds the
program I was preparing a grant for has been defunded, but we have
decided to go ahead and initiate an Indian Education program on .our
own resources. To this end, we will recruit qualified applicants
and set aside at least 12 places in the existing program for them.
Lloyd and David have expressed· interest in developing a complementary
program on Native American Culture and Indian Education in the
Pacific Northwest. These students (and the faculty) will not be able
to enjoy the special additions which the grant would have prcvided
but I feel it is better to proceed under more austere conditions
than not at all. SQ, at our meeting I would like to discuss the
attached documents and any other concerns which you might have.
AGENDA
1. · Discuss composition of advisory board (preliminary list attached)
2. Discuss letter for Dan Evans to send Advisory Board (attached draft)
3. Discuss initial meeting of advisory board (tentative agenda
attached)
.
·
4. Discusss program being -·developed by Lloyd and David
5. Discuss brochure
6. Recruiting strategies and schedule (preliminary information
attached)
7. Other issues and concerns
