William Burford, a poet and English professor from Texas Southern Methodist
Unive~sity, will make five appearances in the Olympia area the week of October 15.
His talks, sponsored by Eye-s, are all free and open to the public.
Burford will appear

at The Evergreen State College three times October 15:

at 10 a.m. in Library room 2417 to conduct a workshop on the French poet Rimbau;
at 1 p.m. in Library 2106 to discuss his view of a poetts creative tasks, and at
8 p.m. in Lecture Hall Five to deliver an informal reading of his

works.

Burford will spend October 17 at St. Martin's College reading and
discussing his poetry with several classes.

And, he will meet with English

students at Timberline High School October 18 at 9:20 a.m.
The poet will also visit Tacoma high schools October 16 as a guest of
the city's poets.
A graduate of Amherst College and John Hopkins University, Burford has taught
at the University of Texas, University of Montana, and Texas Christian University.
He has published numerous poems in national magazines, is represented in four
poetry anthologies, and authored two volumes of poetry:

A World, published in 1962,

and A Beginning, 1966.
He is also a recipient of a Fulbright Award to complete research in French
poetry in Paris.
